Following The Way Of Jesus
Before anyone had heard of a Christian, the followers of Jesus were known as The Way. They were known for following a distinctive way of life—the way of Jesus. His way is learned by showing and telling good news. His way is a hard way but it’s a good way. His way leads to life. Every new generation needs to relearn Following The Way of Jesus. This sermon is part of the Following The Way Of Jesus sermon series, recorded on Jul 28, 2019, by Pastor David Parks on 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2. Root Your Story In God’s Story
What happens when the task God called you to do is done? At the end of Nehemiah’s story, we see that the people are able to root their story, sin, and struggle in the context of God’s story. And this doesn’t just help a little. This doesn’t just give them a little bit of comfort. In this, they see and celebrate the faithfulness of God—not just in their building project or even their lifetime, but in the whole history of the world. Nothing brings greater stability and hope than when you Root Your Story In God’s Story. This sermon is […]

7 Marks of Spiritual Revival
Jesus famously said, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mk 8:36) God absolutely cares about our bodies, hearts, minds, relationships, etc. It’s just that our spiritual needs (souls) are infinitely more important. After the wall project was done, Nehemiah and Ezra led the people in Jerusalem in a great time of spiritual revival and renewal. Stay Focused
We live in the Age of Distraction. If we don’t learn to stay focused, if we give way to the constant stream of notifications and disruptions, then the biggest and the best-laid plans for helping people in need, may never actually happen. We must learn to silence distraction in order to keep the main things the main things in life. We must learn to say with Nehemiah, “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down!” This sermon is part of the How Can I Help? sermon series, recorded on Jul 7, 2019, by Pastor David Parks on Nehemiah 6:1-16. The “How” Matters
Helping people in need is wonderful. But no matter how great your goal is, how you go about accomplishing it matters. Godly ends don’t justify ungodly means. Nehemiah’s leadership was focused on rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem, but he still took the time to stop and address the financial hardship of the people and the injustice they were experiencing along the way. What God calls you to do is important but the how matters, too. This sermon is part of the How Can I Help? sermon series, recorded on Jun 30, 2019, on Nehemiah 5:1-19. Overcome Opposition
Even the best-laid plans can be totally derailed by opposition, especially if it comes early on. Opposition can be external (from critics/enemies) or internal (from fear/doubt). So what do we do when we face opposition? How can we overcome opposition? The first step is to realize that opposition will come. It shouldn’t shock us or shake us. Second, we must let the gospel change our perspective. This sermon is part of the How Can I Help? sermon series, recorded on Jun 23, 2019, by Pastor David Parks on Nehemiah 4:1-23.
