Fighting Our Default Mode
Fighting Our Default Mode: Phones have a default mode, so do computers and cars. People have a spiritual default mode of thinking it is what you do that saves or brings peace. But Christianity says that it’s what God has done through the person and work of Jesus Christ that saves and brings peace—all of which is received by grace. But even Christians who have been saved by grace sometimes need to learn how to live by grace. This sermon is part of the What’s So Different About Christianity? Series recorded on Oct 7, 2018, by Pastor David Parks, from Galatians 2:11-21. Listen/download […]

When God Says No
What do you do when you’ve prayed and prayed for God to change something or someone—but nothing seems to happen? What do you do when God says no? In your desperation and weakness, it’s tempting to think God isn’t good, but is that true? No. The key is to see that your weakness is the very context for the power of God’s grace. In your weakness, and even when the answer to your prayers is “no” or “not now,” God is working a powerful process for your good. Grace is sufficient. Grace is enough. This sermon is part of the What’s So Different […]

Your Life Theme
Your life has a theme, a defining melody with many variations. What is the theme of your life? Your work? kids? wealth? fear? trauma? No matter what your life theme was before Christ, after you are saved by grace, your life theme starts to change. Because of Jesus, the theme of your life can be grace. In Christ, God has saved you in order to tell a story of grace which will echo through the halls of heaven for all eternity. All the variations have a melodic thread connected back to this main theme of grace. And no other religion has anything like this. […]

What’s So Different About Christianity?
There are so many different religions and spiritual practices around the world. Are they all the same? What’s so different about Christianity? One of the main differences is the Christian understanding of grace. In the famous parable of the prodigal son, Jesus reveals a radically different view of God than can be found in any other religion. Jesus says that God is a loving Father who is willing to graciously welcome both the rebel and the devoutly religious. All you have to do is trust in Jesus and come home. Would you come home? This sermon is part of the What’s So […]

God Is Faithful (Even When We’re Not)
The final truth to remember when you struggle with fear is that God is faithful (even when we’re not). The Bible is not a story of the faithfulness of Gideon or even of God’s people. The Bible is one long story of God’s faithfulness to people who are undeserving and ill-deserving of his love, patience, and kindness. God is faithful because Jesus was faithful long before we could ever stumble or fall. If you’ve ever felt like a spiritual failure, just remember that God is faithful (even when we’re not). This sermon is part of our Gideon Series recorded on Sep 9, 2018, by […]

God Can Do So Much More
It’s easy to trust in yourself. It’s hard to trust in God. So, how is that whole “trusting in yourself” thing working for you? When you trust in yourself, you will struggle with fear, anxiety, and worry because every battle is dependent on you—your strength, your wisdom, your resources (which, if you’re anything like me, are always limited). Why not trust the One who can do so much more? God can do so much more. This sermon is part of our Gideon Series recorded on Sep 2, 2018, by Pastor David Parks, from Judges 6:33 – 7:8.
